Saints right-back Cedric Soares has not covered himself in glory off the pitch, admitting that he expected his side to let the lead slip against Fulham.

An early goal from midfielder Stuart Armstrong put Mark Hughes’ side ahead at Craven Cottage, before Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andre Schurrle flipped the scoreline prior to half time.

Armstrong again found the net shortly into the second half, but as quickly as they came out the break to score, Mitrovic had his double and decided the game.

Soares had played his part in Saints pulling level with his flick teeing up the Scot to hammer home from the edge of the box, while defensively he contributed with three tackles and two interceptions.

Speaking to The Guardian after the game, the 33-cap Portugal international let himself down, though, stating: “We were winning 1-0 and I had a feeling that we [would] get the 1-1 because we were very exposed, and then maybe after 1-1 our head was gone immediately. When we concede we immediately get so down mentally, we get frustrated, maybe afraid to lose.”

These Southampton fans certainly were not impressed…
