Southampton fans react as club is linked with Mouctar Diakhaby move

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, Southampton are ready to go head-to-head with La Liga giants Valencia in the race to sign 21-year-old Lyon centre-back Mouctar Diakhaby this summer, and Saints fans have been quick to have their say on the rumour.

L’Equipe, via GFFN, says that the French club have decided to sell the defensive enforcer, who stands at huge 1.92m tall according to Wikipedia, this summer after he was only a bit-part player for them this season – he made 21 appearances in all competitions.

The south coast club certainly need some defensive reinforcements after conceding 58 goals in their 38 Premier League matches last term as they narrowly avoided the drop, and bringing in a player who has been linked with Manchester City and Chelsea previously could be an inspired decision.

Southampton supporters, who will see unpopular vice-chairman Les Reed go from zero to hero by making these three signings, took to social media to give their thoughts on the link, and while one said “his playing style is similar to Wanyama”, another said “he’s at the same level as Jack Stephens atm”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
