According to The Mirror’s live transfer blog (15:38, July 18), Fulham have submitted an improved £8m bid for Southampton left-back Matt Targett, and Saints fans have been quick to react to the rumour.
The Mirror say that the newly-promoted Premier League club are reviving their interest in the 22-year-old having seen a £5m bid rejected previously, with the England U21 international proving to be key to helping them return to the top flight having joined them on loan during the January transfer window.
The south coast outfit’s academy graduate will be hoping to break into the XI under Mark Hughes, who must be willing to pay a club-record fee to land an unwanted Premier League striker, at St Mary’s this term, but he currently faces a tough task to oust Ryan Bertrand, who seems unlikely to leave with just three weeks of the transfer window remaining.
These Southampton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the reported bid, and while one said “what leg do they want”, another said “in today’s climate Targett’s worth £12-15m easy”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
I'm fine with letting him go as I have faith in McQueen

Thought we rejected £10m already. Have a day off Fulham.

Thought this had already been reported in the echo and that it had been rejected.

In today's climate Targett's worth £12-15m easy. Still young, star performer in a promoted Championship team – hope we hold onto him though not sure we can offer regular football if Bertie stays #saintsfc https://t.co/Nzw2TGuzQ9
