According to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, via Calciomercato, Southampton have been joined by Lazio in the race to sign Atalanta centre-forward Andrea Petagna, and Saints fans have been quick to deliver their verdict on the striker.

Tuttosport, via Sport Witness, reported earlier this week that Mark Hughes is keen to sign the 23-year-old as he isn't completely satisfied with his attacking options, with the Welshman looking to boost a team that scored just 37 goals in their 38 Premier League matches last term.

While the Italian would undoubtedly bring a physical threat given his 6ft 3in frame, his record of 11 goals in 75 appearances for Atalanta hardly suggests he will solve their goalscoring woes.

These Southampton supporters, who have delivered their verdict on a potential return to St Mary's for a former attacking star, took to social media to have their say on Petagna, and while one labelled him as "a powerful target striker", another said they would "prefer to give Sam [Gallagher] a run" with the young centre-forward looking to make his mark following yet another loan spell away last term.
