Former Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini came off of the substitutes' bench to score for Sampdoria in their 2-1 defeat against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Sunday, and Saints fans were quick to react on Twitter.

The south coast outfit, who currently lie in the Premier League's relegation zone, sold the Italy international to the Serie A outfit during the January transfer window for an undisclosed fee, and his strike against Inter at the weekend was his second in five outings since the move.

Meanwhile, no Southampton out-and-out striker has scored in the top flight since Shane Long on January 12, and with Danny Ings currently out of action and Michael Obafemi only just returning to training after a hamstring issue, Ralph Hasenhuttl had to rely on the goal-shy Republic of Ireland international and Charlie Austin in the defeat to Cardiff City last time out.

Saints supporters took to social media to have their say on Gabbiadini's goal, and while one said "Ah yes, but we kept Long and Austin", another simply asked: "Why did we let him go?"
