Southampton fans react as Maya Yoshida injured for at least a month

As the season reaches its most crucial stage, one thing that a struggling Southampton side did not need is a long-term injury to one of their defenders.

Unfortunately, the worst has happened. In his press conference on Thursday evening, Saints manager Mauricio Pellegrino stated that Maya Yoshida could be out of action for up to five weeks with injury.

Yoshida, who is valued at £6.3 million by Transfermarkt, has been on of the key men in the Saints back line this season.

With very little investment into defensive options last summer and the sale of Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool in January, Yoshida has been a key figure at the heart of the Southampton team.

And the Saints could live to regret their lack of defensive investment over the next few weeks, as they are left with just two first term central defenders, with Yoshida now sidelined.

Upon hearing the news of Yoshida’s injuury, Southampton fans took to Twitter and were concerned and disappointed in equal measure…
