Southampton fans react as Ronald Koeman sends congratulatory Twitter message

Former Southampton manager Ronald Koeman posted on Twitter to congratulate the south coast outfit on their 1-0 win against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night, and Saints fans were quick to react.

Mark Hughes’ men went into the clash against the Welsh club outside of the relegation zone and only above their opponents on goal difference, and with a final day clash against champions Manchester City at St Mary’s on Sunday, they realistically knew they needed the three points.

Manolo Gabbiadini’s second-half goal ensured they did just that to all-but guarantee their survival, and they will now look to build again following a disappointing two-season spell since Koeman left in controversial circumstances for Everton.

Southampton supporters, who hailed defender Wesley Hoedt on Twitter following his showing against the Swans, took to social media to give their thoughts on the current Netherlands boss’ message, and while one said “come back and take us where we belong”, another said “you were one of the best”.
