According to an interview he has conducted with the Southern Daily Echo, Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk says he is “happy” at the club and “giving 100 per cent”, and Saints fans have been quick to have their say on his latest quotes.
The 26-year-old wanted to leave the south coast outfit during the summer and handed in a transfer request just days before the start of the Premier League season, but it was instantly rejected.
After being initially frozen out and then recovering from a foot injury he suffered in January, the Netherlands international has now started the last five matches under Mauricio Pellegrino.
Speaking about his situation and the future, Van Dijk told the Southern Daily Echo: “I’m giving 100 per cent for the club, I work hard every day, I help my team-mates and I’m positive and I want to win every game.
“‘I’m happy and that’s the most important thing. We’ll see what happens.
Southampton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the Dutchman’s latest comments, with one saying “how much did big Les Reed pay VVD to say that?”
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Wow thanks Virgil. What a great bloke you are. We sure are lucky to have a character like you.

Nice of the club to ask him to speak out… might take the attention off the inept manager and chronic under spend each window
