Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after their young full-back, Jan Valery, received a red card in the first half of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Leicester.
The 19-year-old was making just his seventh Premier League start, and was impressing despite playing on thin ice after receiving a yellow card in the 34th minute.
He was being caused all sorts of problems by Ben Chilwell and James Maddison, and was given his marching orders in the 45th minute after picking up a second yellow.
Luckily, his teammates managed to hold on and secure the win for Ralph Hasenhuttl and the Saints, but it certainly could’ve been a costly moment for the teenager who did look particularly rattled in defence, despite doing well offensively – it was also a huge risk from Hasenhuttl to play his once again after the full-back lost his head in similar fashion against Cardiff a few weeks ago.
The win moves the South Coast side up to 16th and out of the relegation zone, but fans were keen to discuss Valery’s overall performance against the Foxes…
Was causing them trouble before he was sent off. He is very raw and needs to improve but I quite like him.

Red card will do him good in the long run, will learn from the mistake. It does highlight the lack of leadership we have though, could tell it was going to happen 10 mins before and no one made a attempt to calm him down.

Massively hyped up by saints fans, can’t see what he offers

Was so so stupid but agree it was obvious he was going to get sent off. Needed to be subbed

Bit of a worry as he lost the plot v Cardiff 1st half as well and had to be taken off at HT. He’s only a nipper though so they should be able to work on it ?

I wouldn’t say he lost his head, he wasn’t angry at all.. just took one for the team doing a pull back, forgetting he’d been booked previous! I’ve no issues with him, young lad and bags of talent, huge learning curve.
