Southampton defender Jan Bednarek has been named in the 23-man Poland squad for the 2018 World Cup.
The 22-year-old moved to St Mary’s from Lech Poznan in last summer’s transfer window, but it actually took him until April to make his debut for the Saints.
Bednarek made a positive impression in the Premier League clash with Chelsea on April 14, and actually featured in five of Southampton’s final six matches of the 2017-18 campaign.
Bednarek has only made one appearance for Poland, and that came back in September 2017.
The defender was named in his nation’s 35-man preliminary squad last month, however, before making the cut for the travelling squad of 23.
Poland are next in action against Chile on Friday night, before taking on Lithuania next Tuesday in their final warm-up match ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
The Southampton fans have been reacting to the news that the centre-back will be present at this summer’s tournament in Russia.
And it must be said that it was an overwhelmingly positive reaction on social media:

Absolutely happy for him, well-deserved call-up ?
Although, you could say the same for Bertrand, but that’s none of my business . . . #saintsfc
