According to Sky Sports' transfer centre (June 27, 3:34pm), Southampton would accept an offer in the region of £10m for Charlie Austin, who has attracted an enquiry from newly-promoted Premier League club Sheffield United, and Saints fans have been quick to react on Twitter.

The south coast outfit signed the striker in what was a bargain £4m deal from Queens Park Rangers back in 2016, although the 29-year-old ultimately hasn't hit the heights with 20 goals in 81 appearances in all competitions for the south coast outfit since.

Injuries have hampered the former Queens Park Rangers and Burnley man at times, while Ralph Hasenhuttl's preferred pressing style of play meant minutes were limited in recent months following the Austrian's arrival at St Mary's in December.

Hasenhuttl admitted himself earlier in 2019 that Austin had been told that he could leave if a deal that suited all parties could be found, but the latest price tag for a player who only played 979 minutes of Premier League football in 2018/19 has clearly surprised some fans - especially seeing as though he only has one year remaining on his contract.

Southampton supporters have been quick to have their say on the report and asking price via social media, and while one said "Saints are having a giraffe", another said "we're nearly as bad as Birmingham" in relation to the ongoing Che Adams saga.
