Southampton fans react to Jose Fonte’s absence vs. Bournemouth

Today’s a big day for Southampton and Bournemouth fans. It’s a Premier League south-coast derby and everyone’s expecting an exciting and engrossing tussle at Dean Court.

It’s one that Jose Fonte is going to miss, victim again to Claude Puel’s rotation policy. The Southampton manager makes a massive 6 changes this afternoon.

Maya Yoshida will take a place alongside Virgil van Dijk and not everyone’s happy about it. One of those unhappy could be Jose Fonte himself. Earlier this month he expressed dismay at Puel’s rotation policy.

After missing out on a Europa League encounter, Fonte (quoted by The Telegraph) said: “Of course I’m disappointed. I want to play every game. I’m fit to play every game. I’m always on the dance floor – I’m always fit.”

Also the subject of many transfer rumours this month, the timing of the Southampton captain’s absence today couldn’t be more intriguing.

The player was also spotted by BBC reporter Adam Blackmore having an ‘animated discussion’ with the manager just before the team news announcement.

All in all some Saints fans are unhappy with the decision and were hoping to see their captain take his place in today’s starting line-up.

The whole scenario has added another intriguing dimension to the first Premier League kick-off of the afternoon at 1:30pm and we can’t wait to see how it all transpires.
