According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Southampton are reportedly one of two Premier League clubs interested in signing exciting young Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg, and Saints fans have been quick to react to the rumour on Twitter.
The now 21-year-old enjoyed a brilliant 2016/17 breakthrough campaign for the Eredivisie giants where he scored 23 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions, and while he wasn’t quite as impressive last term he has looked back to his best this term.
Despite having to compete with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for a spot in the starting XI, he has netted 10 times in 27 outings in total for the Amsterdam outfit, as he appears to be getting back to his best form.
The Denmark international is of course playing alongside former Saints Dusan Tadic this term following the Serbian’s summer move to the Netherlands from St Mary’s.
Southampton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and while one said “I’m sure Tadic put in a negative word for us”, another said “we couldn’t even get Che Adams”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
@Morgan_Howls need him imo

We couldn’t even get Che Adams. Let’s keep dreaming #SaintsFC

Hahahahahaha as if.
Young striker playing CL football, not a chance in hell he’d come to #saintsfc.
I don’t even get remotely excited by rumours, can we stay up and try to beat Cardiff, Burnley and Palace, before the club’s PR stunts? https://t.co/AoXPIZtx8J

Would imagine it’s not the club leaking that, and would also be fairly confident it’s based on us staying up. Given our position there’s probably two different lists for the two scenarios, hardly a surprise.
