Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina posted a Twitter message to the St Mary's faithful on Sunday after they secured survival on the final day of the Premier League season, and Saints fans were quick to react.

Despite their last-gasp 1-0 loss to champions Manchester City, the south coast outfit stayed up comfortably in the end as Swansea City were beaten 2-1 at home by already-relegated Stoke City at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

Lemina joined the club from Juventus last summer, and it has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the Gabon international who has been brilliant at times, not so good at other moments and has suffered his fair share of injury issues – the latest of which meant that he missed the previous two top flight clashes against the Swans and City.

Southampton supporters, who were not happy with the performance of Lemina's 24-year-old teammate on Sunday, took to social media to respond to the comments from their 6ft tall midfielder, and while one said: "Have some class. Stick with SFC", another said "stick with us!"

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
