[ad_pod ]Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has provided an update, via The Daily Echo, on the progress of Ryan Bertrand as he continues his return from injury, and Saints fans have been quick to react on Twitter. The England international is yet to feature under the Austrian because of a back issue, and despite the original 12-14 day diagnosis and having been regularly seen in training pictures, he is still yet to make a first-team squad.According to quotes as per The Daily Echo, the 51-year-old has now said: "He is still raising his physical strength. He has to work hard, because he was out for a long time. It's normal that it takes time until you can play 90 minutes. He needs to come back in the best physical shape."

The St Mary's faithful may well have been hoping to see the man that captained them under previous Mark Hughes back in action for the crucial clash against fellow Premier League strugglers Cardiff City on Saturday, but that could be unlikely now.

Southampton supporters have taken to social media to give their thoughts on their manager's comments, and while one said "something doesn't seem right about this", another said "there's definitely something odd going on".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
