Southampton fans react to Sam Gallagher’s display as he scores winner in friendly

Southampton striker Sam Gallagher scored the winning goal in his side’s 3-2 pre-season friendly win against Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning on Wednesday, and Saints fans were quick to react to his performance.

The 22-year-old came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute of the game, and he soon made an impact as he latched on to Steven Davis’ clever pass before opening his body and finishing well into the far corner of the net.

The tall centre-forward looked set for a bright future on the south coast having made his debut when Mauricio Pochettino was at the helm, but he hasn’t featured for the first team since 2014 having been sent out on loan to a number of clubs, including Birmingham City last term.

These Southampton supporters, who fear Mark Hughes’ latest transfer plan could see cult hero exit St Mary’s this summer, took to social media to give their thoughts on Gallagher’s latest cameo, and while one predicts it will be his “breakthrough season”, another said they are “hoping he gets a look in this season”.
