Southampton supporters have taken to Twitter to express their thoughts following the announcement that Virgil van Dijk has been sold to Liverpool.
This particular transfer story isn’t overly surprising when considering that Liverpool have been chasing Van Dijk relentlessly over the course of the previous six months.
Despite the 26-year-old’s best efforts, Southampton remained firm and refused the Dutchman to depart the club during the summer window. However, it seems that the experienced centre-half has finally had his wish.
Since the start of the 2014-15 season, Southampton have attained £184m in transfer fees from Liverpool – that figure includes van Dijk’s reported fee of £75m.
Over the course of his Southampton career the Dutchman has made 80 appearances, scoring seven goals. He also received a runners-up medal in the EFL Cup last season.

For 75 million you can have him. Been terrible this season

You’re a laughing stock!

Why?? We bought for 11m or something and sold for 75m a player who didn't want to be here. Great business. Let's just hope we reinvest

A good deal for everyone by the sounds of it. However, every last penny must be reinvested in high quality player purchases in the January transfer window if the club are to have any hope at all of continuing to grow and progress towards its stated objectives.
