According to reports in Colombia, Southampton are interested in signing Colombian midfielder Mateus Uribe in this summer’s transfer window.
Uribe, who has been named in the Colombia squad for the 2018 World Cup, plays his club football for Mexican outfit Club America.
The 27-year-old is a versatile midfielder, and has managed an impressive 11 goals in 31 appearances for Club America since joining the club in 2017.
It is being reported that Southampton boss Mark Hughes has been made aware of Uribe’s talent, and the Welshman could now inform his club to push ahead with an offer ahead of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
The eight-time Colombia international has never played in Europe, but Southampton appear to have seen enough to consider a move in this summer’s transfer window.
The Southampton fans, who have also commented on the speculation surrounding Barcelona’s Paco Alcacer, have been reacting to the transfer speculation on social media.
And it would be fair to say that they are struggling to agree when it comes to whether the midfielder would be a good signing.

Buy Sander Berge from Genk. Quality player! Not a Colombian player ho plays in Mexico….

Get on with it

No idea who he is but he doesn’t appear to be a centre back or a pacey forward so I’ve got no idea why we’re going for him. #saintsfc

Obligatory ‘Real Madrdid were monitoring him’. He’s 27. They could buy him anytime, but haven’t.

My thoughts, we’ll have to sign a cheaper and not so good Columbian to help him settle in England like we did with Pahars or Schneiderlin!! Sounds a decent player. At 27 though why hasn’t anyone brought him already? #saintsfc
