Southampton forward Shane Long has not been in the best of form this season as he has struggled to meet expectations in front of goal.

In fact, the Republic of Ireland international has found the back of the net just once in 17 Premier League outings.

Manager Mauricio Pellegrino continues to keep faith with the 31-year-old, but the arrival of Guido Carrillo from Monaco could force Long down the pecking order.

Today, though, the 31-year-old was given the nod to start in Southampton's 1-0 victory over Watford in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Once again, though, Long drew a blank as he missed a handful of opportunities in front of goal.

Jack Stephens was the difference as he netted on what was his 24th birthday.

Carrillo eventually made his debut by coming off the bench in the 83rd minute, but the forward did not have enough time to show what he is capable of.

Much of the focus on Twitter from Southampton fans was the frustrating display of Long.
