Southampton fans have been reacting to a tweet that says the south coast outfit are one of the clubs that decided to support Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck’s request to raise £5m as a farewell gift to the outgoing Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore.

Scudamore is stepping down from the post after 19 years with the organisation and having been heavily responsible for driving up the value of the television rights for English top flight. When the 59-year-old joined, the UK rights alone sat at £670million but the last deal stood at a staggering £5.14billion, per the BBC.

The whip-round to bid farewell and thank you to the Englishman is being orchestrated by Chelsea chairman Buck, who developed a close friendship with Scudamore since taking over his role at the London club in 2003.
