Southampton striker Charlie Austin struggled to make an impact in his side's 0-0 draw against Burnley in their Premier League opener at St Mary's on Sunday, and Saints fans were quick to slate the 29-year-old for his performance.

The former QPR centre-forward has been a Mark Hughes favourite ever since he took the reins back in March, often preferred ahead of the likes of Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long in the starting XI.

That was again the case against Sean Dyche's men on Sunday when he got the nod ahead of the duo and new boy Danny Ings, but he struggled in the lone role up top and was often left isolated and looked a little off the pace before he was replaced by Gabbiadini in the closing stages.

Southampton supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on Austin's display, and while one described him as "embarrassingly poor", another said "Charlie Austin needs to lay off the kebabs".
