Southampton are a side in dire need of quality in a season featuring just the single Premier League win so far, but it doesn’t appear as though Oriol Romeu will provide it after he appeared for the U23s on Wednesday.

The Wednesday night affair, held at non-league side Ilkeston Town, saw Radhi Jaidi’s side hit seven, with Romeu nearly opening the scoring with an early looping header.

A lot of Southampton fans were shocked to see the Spaniard demoted to the youth ranks, but not all.
