Southampton are a side in dire need of quality in a season featuring just the single Premier League win so far, but it doesn't appear as though Oriol Romeu will provide it after he appeared for the U23s on Wednesday.

Mark Hughes has overseen just five wins since taking over at St Mary’s Stadium in March, and now appears to be unimpressed with a midfielder who’s featured 129 times for the Saints.

Romeu last took to the field for the senior side against Newcastle United at the end of October, and he a shock omission from the Carabao Cup clash at Leicester on Tuesday.
