According to The Mirror, Southampton manager Mark Hughes wants to sign Barcelona attacker Paco Alcacer in this summer's transfer window.

The 24-year-old joined Barcelona from Valencia in the summer of 2016, and still has three years left to run on his contract with the Catalan giants.

Alcacer has only scored 15 times in 50 appearances for Barcelona, however, and has netted just 10 La Liga goals since his arrival at Camp Nou.

Indeed, the presence of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi in the final third of the field has made it difficult for the Spain international, who is valued at £13.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, to secure a regular spot.

It is understood that Valencia are considering the possibility of re-signing the forward, but now Southampton are also being strongly linked with a move in this summer's transfer window.

The Southampton fans have been reacting to the reported interest on social media, and it would be fair to say that they are struggling to come to an agreement.

Indeed, whilst many of the club's supporters would take Alcacer ahead of the new season, there are also those who are unconvinced.
