Southampton fans think Hojbjerg is the team’s only good player following humiliating loss

After narrowly escaping relegation from the Premier League last season, Southampton fans would have hoped that manager Mark Hughes would keep them away from the bottom three in the 2018-19 campaign.

At the moment it does not look as though that will be the case as the team sit just two points above the drop zone after 11 games.

At this stage of the season, the position in the table is not hugely imperative, but what is worse for the Saints is that they are winless in their last seven top-flight fixtures.

On Sunday afternoon they were humiliated by the current champions Manchester City as they lost 6-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Danny Ings got on the scoresheet from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark but it did little to prevent City from running riot.

Understandably, the frustration from recent weeks spilled over and plenty of Southampton fans slammed the club on social media.

Only one player seemed to survive the wrath, though, and that was Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who apologised to the supporters following the heavy defeat.

Some fans called on the club to make the midfielder captain.
