Southampton fans on Twitter are thinking the unthinkable after Gareth Bale’s representatives said, via Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, that “there could be a surprise this summer” with a summer exit away from Real Madrid looking likely.
Gareth Bale will only leave Real Madrid if it’s the right move for him & his family.
Provisional discussions have been held with clubs which could see him move this summer. His advisers won’t comment on links to Bayern, Spurs & Man Utd but “there could be a surprise this summer”

The Welshman of course started off his career with the south coast outfit, before earning a move to Tottenham Hotspur where he quickly showed his world-class abilities.
While he has been a key player at times for Real Madrid in recent seasons – none more so than against Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final – it appears as though he will leave the Bernabeu in the near future with manager Zinedine Zidane reportedly saying he is no longer wanted.

And comments from the 30-year-old’s agent Jonathan Barnett have suggested that a “surprise” could be on the cards in terms of his next club, which caught the attention of Saints supporters on the popular social media platform.
One pointed to the fact that it has only been a few months since he picked his first Southampton shirt as one of two he’d save in a fire, while another pointed to the fact that he could afford to have a year plying his trade at St Mary’s.
Remember when Fraser Forster was challenging for the England No. 1 spot instead of Southampton’s No. 4? We throw back to a happier time for him in the video below…
His wages are certainly one of the biggest hurdles here, with The Telegraph saying he earns £600,000-a-week at Real currently.
Unthinkable as it is, many Saints fans don’t appear to have completely ruled out the chances of a move happening this summer.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
I know this is ridiculous but bring Bale home, trim the squad, speak to investors to help fund wages… He would destroy teams on his own and bring our players up to a new level… nothing but a win win #saintsfc

I suppose if there’s no takers we could have Bale at #saintsfc

Let’s be honest, he could afford it for a year, and I’d love to see him stick two fingers up to the big clubs who think they can hold talent to ransom.
Come home just for a year, tear up the Premier League, repay Saints for putting him on the stage, and become a legend. #dream
