Southampton fans unconvinced by Wesley Hoedt after disappointing draw

Southampton failed to boost their chances of staying up in the English Premier League on Wednesday night, struggling to a draw against relegation rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

Saints remain in the relegation zone heading into the weekend’s action after the 1-1 result where they’ll face another relegation six-pointer against bottom placed West Bromwich Albion.

The winless run for Southampton in the English Premier League is now at 12 matches, with pressure seemingly increasing on manager Mauricio Pellegrino after every league encounter.

Supporters were not happy with the performance or the result and had particular criticism for Wesley Hoedt, a summer signing who joined from Lazio last summer.

The defender gave away a penalty in the 14th minute after he brought down Solly March, which was duly converted by Glenn Murray.

Fans are now unconvinced he’s the long-term defensive solution that Saints are looking for after the departure of Virgil van Dijk.
