Southampton fans experienced a rare moment of joy when the club grabbed a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

The coastal club defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 to progress and set up a final-four clash with reigning Premier League champions Chelsea.

In the league, the Saints have struggled having picked up just five wins in 30 top-flight matches, and that statistic led to the sacking of manager Mauricio Pellegrino.

With just eight games left to go, new boss Mark Hughes has a major task on his hands as the club currently reside two points from safety.

By the time the team take on Chelsea in the FA Cup, Southampton’s league status will become clearer as the contest at Wembley has been scheduled for Sunday, April 22.

The news has not been met with much joy due to a number of reasons; one is that it is a Sunday, which makes travel plans slightly more difficult for supporters.

Another reason is that the semi-final is being staged on the same day as the London Marathon and Southampton Marathon.

Supporters aired these concerns after the Saints confirmed the date of the FA Cup showdown.
