Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard endured a difficult night at the back in his side's 2-2 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion at St Mary's on Monday night, and Saints fans were quick to have their say on the Dane's display.

The south coast outfit signed the 26-year-old in an £18m deal from Borussia Monchengladbach during the summer, and he has already established himself as a regular in the starting XI.

However, he struggled to deal with the threat of the Seagulls' Glenn Murray on Monday, not looking at his best in the air especially – which should be one of the giant defender's best traits – as Mark Hughes' men looked to be in control with a 2-0 lead with 25 minutes to go, before collapsing and conceding twice.

Southampton supporters, some of whom were quick to slate one of their senior players during the international break with one saying "awful player, awful attitude", took to social media to have their say on Vestergaard's performance, and while one described him as "average", another said "Vestergaard isn't a Premier League defender".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
