Southampton have reportedly failed with a £22m offer for Celta Vigo midfielder Stanislav Lobotka.

The Saints submitted the offer earlier this week - as covered by La Voz de Galicia - but it is understood that the bid has been rejected.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been strongly linked with a move for the 23-year-old in this summer's transfer window, but it appears that Celta will keep hold of him.

The Southampton fans have been reacting to the news on social media, and many have urged head coach Mark Hughes to swerve a deal for the Slovakia international.

There is no question that Lobotka - valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt - is a talented footballer, but many Southampton supporters feel that their club do not need another midfielder.

Indeed, it seems that the club's fans would rather see Lobotka's Celta teammate Pione Sisto arrive at St Mary's before this summer's transfer window slums shut.

Meanwhile, Hughes' side continue to be linked with a deal for Arsenal's Danny Welbeck.
