Southampton face one of the biggest matches in recent years when they host south coast rivals Bournemouth at St Mary’s on Saturday, and Saints fans have urged manager Mark Hughes to hand youngster Josh Sims a rare start.
Four points from safety with just four matches of the Premier League season remaining, it is clear that the south coast outfit need to take all three points against the Cherries in order to keep their survival hopes alive following a dreadful campaign – here are three first-team players that shouldn’t feature for the club ever again.
Sims has been involved in the matchday squad in recent weeks and made his only start of the top flight season in the goalless draw against Stoke City last month, but the St Mary’s faithful want him in the XI this time around following a number of brief cameo roles from the substitutes’ bench since then.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the 21-year-old via social media, and while one said “his positivity is exactly what we need”, another said “get him on the pitch!”
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Is someone in your media team trying to drop a hint to the gaffer? Let’s hope he takes it – his positivity is exactly what we need. We’ve earned the right to be a championship club next season. But we’ve got four games to get promoted!
