Southampton dropped points at home against another relegation rival and remained in the Premier League relegation zone as they drew 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion at St Mary’s on Wednesday night, and Saints fans have urged the club to sack manager Mauricio Pellegrino and replace him with Marco Silva.
While the south coast outfit did move up to 18th in the table, their point against the Seagulls means that they have now failed to beat them, Newcastle United, Swansea City, Watford and Huddersfield on their own patch this season.
Meanwhile, Silva was a contender to replace Claude Puel at Saints in the summer but eventually was appointed as the Hornets’ new boss instead, although he was sacked last month following a breakdown in his relationship between the board and the players over a failed move to Everton.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the 40-year-old via social media following the latest disappointing result – their 12th top flight game without a win – and while one said “get rid now and bring in Silva”, another said ‘Marco Silva would get much more out of this squad’.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Well said Wayne. They see the same performances we fans do yet take no action. We’ve been saying for weeks to make the change before it’s too late. I genuinely fear that time has now passed. Surely get Silva in now to at least give us a slim chance of safety #saintsfc

His half time changes stunk of a manager panicking for his job , even in desperation he should of stuck to his philosophy. Our lack of ideas in final third and direct corners was embarrassing we didn’t win one header we now need to pay up and get rid and bring in Silva #saintsfc

Sack the clown. Get Silva in and atleast give us a sniff at survival #SaintsFC

Marco Silva would get much better out of this squad, play the best players and have tactical knowledge – needs to happen now #saintsfc – players mismanaged all over the place

You know you got major problems when your most creative player is Jack Stephens. Lad put in a great shift. What has Lemina got to do to start? Rather go down playing exciting football under Silva than more of this 💩 (which is already taking us down) #saintsfc

Having totally arsed up the transfer window the only hope we’ve got of turning this round now is getting in a new manager. Pellegrino has to go, its time for Silva #saintsfc #webarelylimpon #pellegrinoout
