Southampton climbed out of the English Premier League relegation zone on Saturday, rescuing a point away to Burnley at Turf Moor.
With Sean Dyche’s side leading the encounter heading into the final moments of the game, substitute Manolo Gabbiadini combined with new signing Guido Carrillo to net a huge equaliser that could be pivotal in keeping Saints from dropping down to the second-tier.
Fans are now calling on Mauricio Pellegrino to start playing the duo together in an effort to be more pro-active in securing the results that could save them from relegation.
Fans of the Football FanCast Accy Show will know that we tend to recommend a Premier League outright win treble each week. Those fans might also be aware that this coupon has paid out on many occasions—including the last PL game week!
Take a look at our latest top flight treble—as well as our very tempting EFL fourfold—in the latest edition of the show!
So far this season Pellegrino has almost exclusively utilised a single striker, frustrating supporters who are looking for dynamism in the final third and most importantly, more goals hitting the back of the net.
Whether it’s as part of their current 4-2-3-1 or a more traditional 4-4-2, fans are eager to see the two expensive signings pair up and strike up an attacking partnership.
Will we see the duo unleashed next week at home to Stoke?
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts…
#saintsfc seem wed to 4-2-3-1 but our only natural no 10 is the overlooked Hesketh. So if you're going to persist with the formation, don't you just go for Gabbiadini at no 10 and get him running off Carrillo? Even on a good day, Tadic rarely occupies the right pockets of space.

Players that must start against Stoke:
Hojbjerg, Sims, Gabbiadini AND Carrillo. #saintsfc

I would play sims and boufal with gabbiadini just behind carrillo. Obviously pellegrino won't think the same. Sims directness and positivity on the ball is what we need.

I don’t rate Carrillo, but I’d put him in the team just because I think Gabbiadini needs the support.
Sims first on the team sheet next game. Hojbjerg back in too. #saintsfc

Carrillo alone= Isolated
Gabbiadini alone= Isolated
Carrillo + Gabbiadini= Goal
Come on MP, start them together next week! #SaintsFC

So that’s what happens when Carrillo (target man) plays upfront with Gabbiadini (poacher) who’d have thought that? #SaintsFC

Why not play Gabbiadini and Carrillo up front together??? #SaintsFC

Sims having an impact and Gabbiadini working well in a partnership with Carrillo. Who would've thought? 🙄🤔 #saintsfc
