Southampton booked their place in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup on Saturday after a hard fought win away to Championship side Fulham.
Saints had failed to win a match in nine previous attempts but a James Ward-Prowse effort on the half hour mark was enough to see them safely through, giving a major boost to Mauricio Pellegrino’s reign at St Mary’s.
While obviously pleased with the result, supporters were still left fuming at the performance of their side, believing that they should have made easier work of the lower league side and being left baffled by some of Pellegrino’s tactical decisions.
Fans are worried they’ll be dragged into a relegation fight in the second half of the season, sitting perilously close to the relegation zone as it stands.
Is sacking Pellegrino the way forward or can the Argentinian grind out the results needed to ensure that Saints will be safe in the closing stages of the season?
Supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts…
Why is Pellegrino obsessed with trying to win every match 1-0. It doesn't work! Get another striker on and get that second goal ffs #saintsfc

Let’s not get too excited about this. We beat a championship team away 1-0. Pellegrino out for me #saintsfc

Got the result but the performance was very poor still. You are a fraud Pellegrino #saintsfc

So neither of our fit strikers seem to be able to score for toffee, and winning the ‘least worst team’ award in an awful game against a championship side will probably save Pellegrino’s job, despite hugely suspect tactical and sub choices yet again. Yey! #SaintsFC

Nothing will change under Pellegrino. #saintsfc

No doubt pellegrino will be happy with his tactics ! Still don’t understand how sitting on a 1-0 lead against Fulham is something to feel good about ! PEH subbed again , redmond missing & gabbi not enough time on the pitch #papercracks #saintsfc

0-1 win against championship side when we had a fairly “strong” squad for what we have and playing that shit doesn’t feel like a win, it feels like paper over the cracks and Pellegrino is safe for another 1-2 months😂 #SaintsFC

#SaintsFC win, but do nothing to suggest the flaws are gone, particularly in the game management side. Pellegrino manages like he's pre-planned things, rather than watching what is happening in front of him.

I don't care how it reflects on me. I wish Fulham had beaten us 10-0. Then Pellegrino might have gone, and then we might have a chance to survive in the league. Pellegrino WILL take us down. #saintsfc

Very sloppy 2nd half but a wins a win. Some baffling decisions by Pellegrino taking off Boufal & Hojbjerg who were our best players #SaintsFC

We were appalling.
Sat back against Fulham. Fulham!
