Southampton line up former Man City flop

Southampton are weighing up a move for experienced Greek striker Giorgios Samaras as a replacement for departed top scorer Rickie Lambert, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Saints sold their prolific forward to Liverpool earlier this summer, and have since moved to snap up Graziano Pelle in a bid to ensure that their former talisman will not be missed.

Although the Italian is highly-rated, Ronald Koeman is understood to want further firepower, with Samaras on his radar.

The much-maligned forward spent some time at Manchester City earlier in his career, but failed to justify the £6m fee paid for him back in 2006 as he struck eight goals in 54 outings.

It’s likely that the chance to join Southampton would appeal to the 6 ft. 4” ace, who is able play on either flank as well as through the middle.
