According to Spanish media outlet Faro de Vigo, Southampton centre-back Wesley Hoedt is reportedly closing in on a move to La Liga strugglers Celta Vigo, in a deal which is reported to be an initial loan with the option of a permanent exit in the summer.

What's the word, then?

Faro de Vigo report that the Spanish club have moved for the Saints outcast after failing with an attempt to sign Crystal Palace's Jairo Riedewald.

Hoedt made 13 Premier League appearances for the south coast outfit this season prior to Ralph Hasenhuttl's arrival at St Mary's last month, but he hasn't played a single minute or been involved in their previous eight matchday squads in all competitions under the Austrian.

What will his exit mean?

Firstly, Southampton will be glad to be rid of another player with a high price tag that simply hasn't lived up to expectations.

The 24-year-old probably would have been hoping to star for Saints and then move onto bigger things like many other players have in the past, but instead he has been hugely error-prone and shown a real lack of defensive nous.

The fact that he has been completely cast aside by Hasenhuttl could suggest that his attitude hasn't been great on the training pitch either, and if the club can give him a chance to impress for another side to help them earn some of their money back on him at the end of the campaign, then this deal is undoubtedly a no-brainer.
