Southampton scouting £16m World Cup goalscoring midfielder

Southampton are chasing Porto’s Juan Quintero and have had scouts assessing him in recent weeks, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Colombia international is currently on loan in Ligue 1 with Rennes, but has shone in Portugal and for his nation – whom he scored for at the World Cup last summer – for some time.

And reports claim that Saints manager Ronald Koeman is a big fan of the player, with scouts from the club having been sent to watch him as recently as last week in action against Paris Saint-Germain.

The £16m-rated attacking midfielder is seen as the sort of player that could fit will in the Dutchman’s fluid, counter-attacking system at St Mary’s, although a move in January is unlikely given that the South American is tied to Rennes until the end of 2015/16.

The 22-year-old is at home on either flank or as a ‘No.10’, with pace and technique his key traits.
