Southampton should go all out to land Kemar Roofe

According to the print version of The Sunday Mirror (04/11, page 66) – reported via HITC – Southampton, Wolves and Crystal Palace are all monitoring Leeds’ Kemar Roofe ahead of potentially making a move for the forward in the January transfer window.

What’s the word?

Roofe has been in fine form for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds so far this season, registering seven goals in just 10 games for the Championship table-toppers.

Given the 25-year-old’s prolific form it is no surprise to see him attracting top flight attention. A big bid in January could offer the forward a short cut to the Premier League.

Of those apparently in the race for his signature, Southampton would be wise to go all out in order to ensure that they land the Whites’ striker in the winter transfer window.

A potent new weapon

The Saints have been struggling for goals so far this season with just seven scored in the league to date. With so many forwards undergoing goal droughts – such as Manolo Gabbiadini, Charlie Austin, Nathan Redmond and Shane Long – the south coast club could desperately do with an injection of end product in January.

Roofe’s confidence and finishing ability ought to make Mark Hughes’ side more potent in goalscoring areas, whilst his versatility should allow him to fill in across the forward line. While he has a Transfermarkt valuation of just £3.15 million, it is likely that Leeds would demand a much higher fee for the 25-year-old if any potential suitor is to have any chance of prising him away from Elland Road.

What do you think, Saints fans – would you be excited to welcome Roofe to St Mary’s Stadium in January?
