Southampton should move for Falque this summer

According to Tuttosport, Southampton are interested in signing Torino attacker Iago Falque in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Southampton have already been busy this summer, with Jannik Vestergaard following Mohamed Elyounoussi, Angus Gunn and Stuart Armstrong to the club.

Saints boss Mark Hughes is believed to be far from finished, however, as the English club look to avoid another difficult campaign.

According to Tuttosport, Southampton are interested in signing Torino attacker Falque, who scored 14 times and registered 10 assists in 40 appearances for his Italian club last term.

The 28-year-old has previous experience of English football having turned out for Tottenham Hotspur earlier in his career, whilst he also played one Championship game on loan at Southampton during the 2011-12 campaign.

A lot has changed for both since then, and it might well be the perfect reunion if Southampton decided to push for a move.

Why would Falque be a good signing?

It is worth remembering that Falque turned out for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus during his youth career, which is an indication of his talent.

It did not happen for the attacker during his time at Tottenham, but he has since turned out for Genoa, Roma and now Torino – where he has really thrived.

Southampton have already brought some exciting players to the club this summer, but the arrival of Falque could have a positive impact on centre-forward Manolo Gabbiadini.

The 26-year-old only scored five Premier League goals for Southampton last term, but there is no doubting the Italian’s talent, and he scored a super header in his team’s 3-2 win over Jiangsu Suning on Wednesday.

Falque has 22 Serie A assists during his time in Italian football, and Gabbiadini could well thrive alongside the 5ft 9in Spaniard in the club’s attack.
