According to The Independent, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl wants to sign Everton winger Ademola Lookman in a £20m deal this summer, and his arrival at St Mary's may have a big impact on Nathan Redmond.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Independent report that the 21-year-old is up for sale having failed to force his way into Marco Silva's plans at Goodison Park, and Hasenhuttl is keen on a reunion with a player he had on loan with him at RB Leipzig in 2018.

The Independent report that the Austrian boss is hoping to use the England U21 international's pace and energy for his high pressing game next term, as Saints look to avoid being involved in a Premier League relegation battle for the third year running.

The sparingly-used Lookman has two years remaining on his contract with the Merseyside outfit, but would still command a fee of £20m.

Big impact on Redmond

The fans' and players' player of the year has played in a range of attacking positions for the south coast outfit in 2018/19, but he has usually featured from the left-hand side in a 4-2-2-2 or 5-2-3 system.

However, that may well change should the Lookman arrive at St Mary's seeing as he has tended to play from the same side during his career to date.

Redmond recently suggested to The Daily Echo that he would like to play in more of a No.10 role, and he may well get his wish should the £20m summer deal go through.

Hasenhuttl's preferred formation is the 4-2-2-2 based on his previous management roles, and the presence of Lookman in the starting XI could see the former Norwich City man further forward alongside a striker like Danny Ings.

That is certainly an exciting prospect for Saints supporters and for the 25-year-old himself, who could be in for a very different 2019/20 campaign.
