Southampton star expecting January exit

Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez is expecting to leave the club this January with interest from Italy and his native Uruguay strong, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The playmaker arrived at St Mary’s Stadium from Bologna back in 2012 with a reputation as one of the best creative players in Serie A and had even attracted interest from sides such as Liverpool.

However, he’s struggled to force his way into the Saints’ first-team plans on a consistent basis, resulting in a loan spell with relegated Hull last term.

And now talkSPORT, citing Sport Mediaset, claim that the player is expecting to leave in the New Year, with his old side, Bologna, interested, as well as fellow Italians Lazio and Uruguayans Penarol – whom he started his career with.

Ramirez has not played for Southampton since 2014 and has been told by manager Ronald Koeman that he does not feature in his plans.
