Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is aiming to make Werder Bremen winger Eljero Elia his first Dutch signing at the south coast club.
The 27 year-old winger has been priced at around £4 million, which makes him an affordable option for the Saints as they look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window.
Elia began his playing career at Dutch sides Den Haag and Twente, before moving to German side Hamburg in 2009.
A switch to Italian giants Juventus followed two years later, but after struggling to make an impact in Serie A, he returned to Germany with Werder Bremen in 2012.
Elia had turned down previous opportunities to move to the Premier League. Liverpool and Everton were both interested in signing him before he joined Juventus in August 2011.
Given Southampton’s current injury woes, Elia would represent a useful signing for Southampton, who overcame a poor slump in form on Saturday by beating Everton 3-0 at St Mary’s Stadium.
