According to The Sun, Southampton are monitoring QPR prospect Eberechi Eze, who is also of interest to Tottenham.

What's the word, then?

Well, the Saints are reportedly keeping tabs on the 21-year-old and sent a scout to check on the forward last week as the South Coast side try and draw up some transfer targets for January.

Eze is arguably one of the most exciting players in the Championship, dazzling the Loftus Road faithful with his ball skills, flair and flamboyancy - he has registered more shots per game and more dribbles per game this term than Saints attacker Nathan Redmond has.

He has started this season in fine form under Mark Warburton with two goals and an assist in five Championship games so far.

The Englishman would also be a handy signing for the Saints as he would help add a homegrown player to their quota, which has been weakened by the recent departure of Fraser Forster to Celtic.

Another versatile forward for Ralph Hasenhuttl

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl already has some exciting forwards in his squad such as Sofiane Boufal - who registered more take-ons than Lionel Messi last term in La Liga - as well as Redmond.

Interestingly, these three can all play in a number of positions across the frontline as per their Transfermarkt pages.

Redmond is able to operate as an attacking midfield in the centre, as well as out on the left or the right - the former Birmingham man's versatility is matched by Boufal, who can also play in those very same positions.

Interestingly, Eze can play anywhere across the attacking midfield positions as well, which hands Hasenhuttl another versatile option to deploy.

If he decides to deploy a frontline of Boufal, Redmond and Eze - if he signs of course - then the Austrian boss will have an attack that has the rare ability to interchange and cause problems for the opposition.

Defences won't know where each player is going to pop up, making them almost impossible to mark, which will surely be a huge boost to striker Che Adams, who will be able to operate just in front of the trio and feed on the chaos they create.
