According to The Express, Southampton and Leicester have been keeping tabs on Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen in the first few games of this season with a view to making a move for the attacker.

What's the word, then?

Well, the Saints are keeping a close eye on the Englishman who has impressed hugely for the Tigers in the last couple of years.

Bowen netted 14 Championship goals in the 2017/18 season and followed that up with an impressive 22 goals last term, as he managed to earn a place in the EFL Championship Team of the Year.

The 22-year-old has already netted three goals in the Championship so far in the current campaign having made just six appearances, whilst he has also netted in the Carabao Cup.

Fits Ralph Hasenhuttl's ethos to a tee

The Southampton boss has already revealed that he doesn't want any signings who are over the age of 24, as he looks to fill his squad with players who have "lots of speed" as well as "gaming intelligence".

In that respect, Bowen fits the bill.

The 5-foot-9 forward is quick across the ground, and has the "gaming intelligence" that Hasenhuttl is after, seeing as he can play anywhere across the frontline and to decent effect, given his goalscoring record over the years.

This ethos from Hasenhuttl has already been seen in the £15m summer capture of Moussa Djenepo, a player who - like Bowen - can also play at left-wing, right-wing or at centre-forward, whilst the Malian is just 21.

Additionally, Djenepo has already shown signs of fitting the system well, having already scored his first goal.

It is clear that Hasenhuttl is targeting a certain type of attacker and Bowen appears to fit the bill.
