Southampton target the ‘next Dele Alli’: Recoe Martin

According to The Mirror, Southampton are one of a number of English clubs tracking MK Dons starlet Recoe Martin, who has been impressing at youth level and scored five goals in 17 minutes last week (no, that’s not a typo).

The striker is being dubbed the ‘new Dele Alli’ – the Spurs star came through the Dons ranks too – and the prospect of a link-up with Michael Obafemi at St Mary’s is mouthwatering. If Ralph Hasenhuttl can help Martin reach his potential, comparisons will surely be drawn between he and Mauricio Pochettino.

What’s the word?

Well, The Mirror reports that the Saints are joined by fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle plus the Championship’s Norwich in their pursuit of the 18-year-old, who has yet to sign a pro deal at Stadium MK and so could leave on a compensation package.

This surely makes any swoop far more attractive for the aforementioned clubs, who are not yet certain of where they will be playing their football next season – both top flight clubs are relegation threatened while Norwich look certain to go the other way.

The Saints might have temporarily solved the lack of a prolific striker with the signing of Danny Ings but Hasenhuttl has shown a clear penchant for bringing through youth and, given the right player, he will commit himself to moulding a youngster into their next great goalscorer.

Hasenhuttl’s chance to prove he is the next Poch

Former Southampton boss has made a star out of Alli, could Hasenhuttl repeat the feat at St Mary’s Stadium with Martin? The Austrian is willing to bring forward young stars if he feels they will help the team and the faith he has exhibited in Yan Valery and Jan Bednarek is proof of that.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Neither player has yet reached Alli’s level but the signing of Martin would present Hasenhuttl with an opportunity to match the Lilywhites boss.

Will Hasenhuttl be the man to develop Martin into the next Alli?
