According to Tuttomercatoweb via Sport Witness, Southampton are interested in Bordeaux attacker Francois Kamano – a player they failed to sign last summer and in January.

What’s the deal, then?

The Guinean, who primarily played on the left wing for the Ligue 1 outfit last term, had been in negotiations with the south coast side from the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign and was still in talks as recently as January, as per Sport Witness.

And when a deal could not be reached Saints turned to Standard Liege’s Moussa Djenepo, whom they secured a transfer for earlier this month.

But Ralph Hasenhuttl appears to still be looking to add to his attacking front line for the new season if the latest link to Kamano is to be believed, with the club reportedly working with Kamano’s agent to try and bring him to the Premier League.

Kamano discussions do not bode well for Boufal

So, Djenepo and potentially Kamano could join what has all the makings of a potent attack at St Mary’s - it already contains the likes of Nathan Redmond and Danny Ings.

As a result, the future does not look too bright for Sofiane Boufal, who is returning from his season-long loan with Celta Vigo.

The 25-year-old winger's time in Spain did not go to plan as he netted just three goals and provided three assists in 37 appearances - a pretty dismal campaign by all accounts.

It isn't hard to imagine that Hasenhuttl will have looked at that record and been impressed - especially with his record of four goals and three assists in 59 appearances for Southampton prior to his loan exit.

What's more, the Moroccan fell out with Saints' previous manager Mark Hughes when he reportedly refused to warm-up after being named as a substitute in a game against Chelsea - something which will make Hasenhuttl question his mentality.

Southampton's new man Moussa Djenepo divides opinion amongst fans in the video below...

Djenepo and Kamano - who netted 13 - both reached double figures in terms of goals last season, and then you’ve got somebody in Redmond who contributed nine goals and six assists in the last campaign despite Southampton struggling for large portions of it.

If the Kamano signing is completed by the south coast outfit then you can only see Boufal going one way, and that’s out the exit door.
