Southampton to offload star for World Cup ace

Southampton are closing in on a deal that will see ‘badboy’ striker Dani Osvaldo head to Inter Milan in exchange for Algerian midfielder Saphir Taider, according to reports from Goal.

The Saints have endured a difficult few months, with five key first-team players from last season having exited.

Further to this Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez are being linked with Tottenham, while some gossip indicates that Jack Cork and Jose Fonte may also head off.

Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic have already been signed by new boss Ronald Koeman, and now it appears that the Dutchman is ready to kick on with his rebuilding plans by snapping up Taider.

The classy midfielder starred for his nation at the World Cup, earning much praise as he helped them into the last 16.

It is understood that Inter are ready to use him in a deal to get Osvaldo – who became Southampton’s record signing last summer as he completed a £15m switch from Roma – to the San Siro, which appeals to the Hampshire side.

The controversial forward was quickly shipped out in January after a training ground altercation and is unlikely to have any future at St Mary’s Stadium.

34-year-old defender Hugo Campagnaro may also be thrown in as a replacement for Dejan Lovren.
