Southampton target Jarrod Bowen continued his quite ridiculous form with a match-winning double against Stoke City at the weekend.

The former Hereford attacker has been linked with a move to St Mary's as he mulls over a new three-year contract offer from Hull, a club who Bowen is single-handedly winning points for on most matchdays.

How has he fared?

Well, the 22-year-old's latest two-goal haul was the third time that he has netted twice in one game this season, and Bowen's double against the Potters took his tally for the season to 15 goals in all competitions, with 14 of them coming in the Championship - Bowen had a whopping eight shots against Stoke, hitting the target with three of them and scoring with two.

The 5 foot 9 attacker's efforts have won the Tigers 18 points alone this season, having scored point-winning goals in wins and draws against Reading, Nottingham Forest, Derby, Preston, Middlesbrough, Wigan and Brentford, as well as his recent double against Stoke.

Do Southampton need him?

Well, The Telegraph reported that Saints owner Gao Jisheng will hand Hasenhuttl 'limited' funds to work with this January, so Bowen might not actually be attainable on the cheap given his importance to Hull - that much is merely an assumption though.

"Southampton are still also intending to appoint a specialist in player trading, although Ralph Hasenhuttl will be limited in his January budget and will largely need to turn Southampton’s season around with his existing squad."

In truth, while every side loves a goalscorer, Southampton already have one in Danny Ings who has scored nine Premier League goals already this season - level with Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Sadio Mane.

What does need sorting is the backline.

Hasenhuttl has overseen the Premier League's worst performing backline so far this season, as the Saints have conceded a whopping 35 goals in just 16 games - an average of 2.19 concessions per 90 minutes.

Bowen seems to be an excellent player and a prolific goalscorer, but with Ings leading the line so effectively, any money that does come Hasenhuttl's way in January should probably be spent on repairing a shaky backline.
