Southampton secured a historic victory last night as they came from behind to beat Italian giants Inter Milan 2-1 at St Mary’s, in a result that continued a superb run of form for Claude Puel’s side.
Statistically solid at home in European competition, Southampton’s win last night took their unbeaten run to seven games at home in continental action – three wins and four draws.

Southampton’s victory puts them in a tremendous position to seal a place in the knock-out rounds of the Europa League, as Puel’s side now have a four-point advantage over Inter Milan with two games to go.
The victory over Inter was their second win in Europe this season, with the Hampshire outfit having previously beaten Sparta Prague, and the Saints will be confident heading into their final two games of the group stage – which see them travel to Prague and host Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Southampton’s win was only the Saints’ third across their last eight games in all competitions but it should give the squad a big morale boost ahead of a testing month, where they clash with Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal.
