Michael Obafemi scored his 15th and 16th goals of the season on Tuesday as Southampton Under-23s recorded a 2-1 win over Norwich City Under-23s in Premier League 2.

Obafemi scored just 13 seconds into the fixture before adding his second in stoppage time as the Saints collected all three points.

The 17-year-old, who has also scored nine times in 11 appearances for Southampton's Under-18 team, has been seen in the Premier League during the 2017-18 campaign.

Indeed, the teenager appeared as a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in January, and actually almost capped his first-team debut with a goal in the latter stages.

Obafemi has not been in the squad since, but could well be handed an opportunity in the coming weeks following the dismissal of Mauricio Pellegrino.

The Southampton fans, who have not responded positively to reports of a move for Mark Hughes, are excited about the potential of Obafemi, and a number have called for the forward to be handed another chance before the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
