According to a recent report from Daily Mail, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur are finalising an initial loan deal for the 22-year-old Kyle Walker-Peters, with talks ongoing over the potential inclusion of an option or obligation to buy for a fee in the region of £12m.

The young full-back has seemingly found himself surplus to requirements under Jose Mourinho and a transfer away from north London may be exactly what he needs to kick-start his career.

Needless to say, the young defender's arrival would yield one clear winner and one clear loser at Southampton...

Winner: Yan Valery

Walker-Peters' arrival would bring another promising right-back to Southampton. And while at first that may seem like bad news for Valery, another layer of competition could actually benefit him in the long run.

The French full-back has shown great promise on the south coast but he still has some way to go in his development. With Walker-Peter also competing for a starting berth, Ralph Hasenhuttl can expect to see both players thrive on the healthy competition.

It remains to be seen, however, what kind of an impact the potential recruit ends up having on young Valery.

Loser: Kevin Danso

Even though Danso is very much a centre-back by trade, he's been used all over the defensive line for Southampton in the ongoing 2019/20 campaign. As per the games Transfermarkt have in their database, the 20-year-old has been deployed twice at left-back, three times as a centre-back and a total of four times as a right-back for the Saints.

But with another full-back possibly joining from Spurs, Danso could very well see his opportunities diminish as there would no longer be a need for him to plug holes at full-back.

As a direct result of that, he may even get less game time than he's currently getting and, with just 601 minutes under his belt so far, it's safe to say he's already on the fringes.

Southampton signed Danso on a season long loan with the option to buy him at the end of his loan spell, per BBC, but considering the current circumstances and the seemingly imminent arrival of another full-back, it looks unlikely that the club will secure his services on a permanent basis in the summer.
